iLearn. uLearn. We all need to learn! I want my students to be global digital citizens with a tap of an app.
I teach a group of diverse second graders with varying levels of technology experience.
Some students have an iPad at home and some students have never used an iPad. Our school has nearly 1,400 students and over 60% of those students receive free and reduced lunch.
My Project
Using educational apps on an iPad ensures that I can differentiate learning throughout my class. My students will be able to use an iPad during literacy and math centers to enhance their learning experience. For example, a student can use the "Read With Me" app to increase their fluency, or they can use the "Write About This" app to strengthen their writing skills, or "Subtraction Top It" to help students master their subtraction facts. The possibilities are endless.
In addition, every morning, many of my students arrive twenty minutes before school begins and have to just "wait" outside my classroom door. With the use of an iPad, iLearning can begin as soon my students arrive at school. Wasting twenty minutes a day equates to sixty hours of time that could be spent learning.
In addition, students will be able to use this portable device to scan QR Codes. For example, students can write a word problem in math and then create a QR Code with the answer.
Throughout the day, I will be able to utilize the iPad to help students discover the magic of learning.
The students' enthusiasm and motivation for learning new concepts will soar! The popular phrase "There is an app for that!" sums up my desire for using an iPad in my classroom.
