My amazing second-grade students are creative thinkers who are curious and love to explore the world around them. I teach students with extremely diverse backgrounds, cultures, languages, and abilities. Sixty-three percent of my students come from faraway places such as India, Mexico, Dominica, and the Congo. They speak foreign languages such as Spanish, French, Tamil, Telugu, Korean, Urdu, Chinese and more. Forty-seven percent of our students are on free or reduced-price lunch. They learn best when they are actively engaged with hands-on activities. They are kind and come together to help each other as a classroom family.
My students will be more engaged in their learning and thrive with these wonderful materials!
I would describe my classroom as engaging, supportive, rigorous, and full of love. I have a strong passion for teaching. I provide my students with a motivational and caring classroom community that is conducive to learning. I teach all subjects in a general education classroom. My students learning styles and abilities require reteaching, and enrichment in all subjects. The resources that I am requesting will really draw my students into their learning environment.
My Project
Technology is the way of the future and I want my students to have the opportunity to be engaged in it from a young age. Using an iPad with apps like My-On, Starfall, Reading A-Z, and I-Ready would accommodate all of my students special needs. Students who require extra practice for improving their academics could focus in on their specific areas of need for tutorial practice. Students would be able to use a device that is more simplistic compared to a desktop computer in a more comfortable learning space. The protective case will keep our technology safe so students for years to come can benefit from the iPad.
An iPad would provide engaging opportunities for students with ADHD, and my students who speak other languages could improve their reading and language skills.
The students would be able to use the iPad in a small group or by themselves for researching biographies, science facts, animals, famous people or whatever else they would like to know more about to use in their informational writings, too. Thank you for considering to support our classroom project that would meet the special needs of each child.
