Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are diverse in ethnicity, economics, and academics. We are a title 1, dual-language (Spanish and Vietnamese) school in a busy Seattle neighborhood. My students speak a variety of languages including Spanish, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Somali, among others. However, one common denominator is that they all work hard and want more. They want more knowledge, they love to learn! In order to do that, they need the materials that can help them be successful and WANT to continue to be lifelong learners.
My Project
Our school is a low income, dual language school which prepares our diverse population of students for the future. In order to better prepare them, my first grade students need more iPads in our classroom so they can dive into the tech world and become better independent learners. iPads in the classroom will enable our 1st Grade students to become more adept with technology, more literate by using our district`s literacy programs, better mathematicians as they step into the tech world with a vast array of mathematical games and programs, and open their eyes to coding and computer science. The iPads will be balanced daily in our classroom instruction and learning and used for all subjects. These iPads will be accessed by over 38 of our first grade students this year alone and multiply in usage in the years to come. Access to technology is instrumental to today's education.
