Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
David Warlick once said, "We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher's hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world."
The students in our rural NC school come from various backgrounds with many different learning styles and abilities.
Many are from military families that have a mother or a father that are deployed. Our population has a high concentration of English Language Learners which means English is their second language! This year (2017-2018) our school qualifies for all children to receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students do not have access to technology at home. It is important for them to be exposed to technology as technology now drives our world. Because teaching, learning, and everyday life moves more and more from traditional learning tools to more advanced technology, my students need exposure to technology to become successful students and future leaders in our community. A large number of my students come from low socioeconomic households.
My Project
The iPad Air devices that I am requesting will be used to make the subjects I teach more engaging. Because I teach all the subjects, I teach reading, grammar, writing, math, science, and social studies. Having students that vary in ability levels from kindergarten to second grade presents a challenge daily. These devices will help me have a more engaging classroom for my students. All my students would have a chance to use the iPads to practice spelling words, use reading apps, and listen to stories using a QR reading code. They will play educational games for math, science, and social studies. These games will help to cement the concepts that we are working on in class. The iPads will also give remedial practice to students that are struggling in various subjects. There are so many great educational apps and websites that will make these iPads indispensable tools in our classroom.
