Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most students at my school spend 3:30-4:30 playing in the orchestra or enjoying gym and other enriching activities. My students with special needs spend that time working on improving their Math and literacy skills and meeting their goals. This grit often goes unrecognized.
My 7th and 8th grade students are extremely hard-working.
They go to school from 7:25 am-4:30 pm Monday-Friday. They attend school on Saturdays, 1 month during the summer, and have less vacation time than other public schools in NYC. With over 2 hours of homework each night, my students understand the value of a good education and realize that there are no shortcuts in life.
Through their hard work, they make themselves better students and me a better teacher. Although learning is challenging for my students, they show up at school every day, with positive attitudes, ready to work. I am inspired by them on a daily basis.
My Project
Less than 10 years ago, most classrooms never had interactive SMARTboards, laptops and other technology to increase student engagement and interest. Today many classrooms even have iPads to support the different learning styles of students. My classroom does not have an iPad, but with your help they can!
An iPad and smart cover alone will not increase student performance, but with my dedication and commitment, my students will find more enjoyment in learning and not be bored practicing and perfecting old skills while their peers are enjoying afternoon activities. All students learn differently and no child should be deprived from learning the best way they can. The iPad will help the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learner to succeed where a pencil and paper cannot.
I am requesting an iPad and a smart case that will be used to support my 7th and 8th grade students.
This new technology will exponentially increase the amount of learning that happens in my classrooms. My students deserve to learn in an engaging way, and, with an iPad, my students with special needs are going to develop the skills necessary to be successful in high school, college, and the working world.
