My Students
How excited are you to get a new piece of technology? Now imagine how excited struggling students would be to receive a device that will allow them to learn based on their individual interests and abilities. I would like for my students to have this opportunity.
I teach First Grade at a Charter School located in a high poverty, high crime neighborhood in New York City.
More than 85% of the students in my school qualify for free lunch. My students happen to be some of the smartest, most thoughtful and most caring human beings I've ever met. My First Graders are curious, motivated and love learning. I am passionate about creating a classroom community where all children have equal opportunities to learn and this means having access to the best learning materials possible.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad, protective case, stylus pen and VGA adapter to connect the iPad to our projector which will allow me to use the iPad during whole group lessons. The iPad will engage, support and develop my students' math, literacy and social skills. It will improve students' abilities to effectively learn, focus, control their bodies, and meet academic goals.
About 90% of my students enter First Grade performing "below grade level." Some of my students are English Language Learners. Others have limited access to learning technology outside of school. Having access to an iPad at school will be extremely important for their academic success. There are a countless number of educational apps for students to use which will ensure that every child gets what they need to learn - students who are struggling will be challenged, as well as students who excel! I also want to use the iPad to aid my teaching, during lessons and to help assess students.
Learning is impossible without the right learning tools.
In this ever-changing world, technology engages students like no textbook or worksheet imaginable. Having effective learning technology in the classroom should not be an option, it should be a requirement. This iPad will help my students be well-rounded, academically capable leaders. They will remain engaged, informed, inspired, motivated, challenged and curious to learn more!
