"Don't limit a child to your own learning, for he was born in another time," Rabindranath Tagore once said, and this couldn't be more true. We are constantly trying to find new ways to teach our students while we try to keep their interest and love of learning alive.
Our students are seven and eight year olds that start out second grade in what is a brand new school to them.
They are energetic, caring, thoughtful, and wonderful kids who have developed such a love of learning that we want to help them in every way possible. A lot of our time is spent in small groups, which means the groups that are not working with one of the teachers are in learning centers. Our students love the time they get to spend in centers and look forward to it each day. With such a diverse group of learners, there are many different activities going on during centers at all times, including technology centers. We spend a lot of time looking for new technology and ideas to make sure their centers are as beneficial as possible for every student.
My Project
"Is it my day for the iPad?" has become the most common question we hear when introducing centers each day. With two teachers in my classroom, the strides we are able to make with our students are breathtaking, and we can only hope to continue this. Having the opportunity to use iPads throughout each day, we have seen huge improvements in our classroom. Using an iPad in centers not only helps to incorporate technology into our classroom, but also uses a hands-on approach to engage all students and get them excited to learn, all while teaching the students to use tools that are becoming a part of our everyday life. An addition of a couple more iPads in our classroom will make it possible to have both teachers using technology during small groups at once and have more opportunities for independent use during centers. The iPad had increased our learning in all subjects as well as our behavior and we can't wait to have more to use in our classroom!
