Help me give my students in Pre-K updated Apple - iPads (Latest Model) with Wi-Fi - 32GB in order to be able to develop their skills in literacy, math, writing and more.
Pre-Kindergarten is the first experience for many of my students in a structured learning environment. They love to listen to stories, draw, design, and build while socializing with their peers. Curious and eager to explore the world while learning through play and social interactions, the children truly blossom during the Pre-K year. We have two sessions of Pre-K, 28 morning students and 28 afternoon students.
We currently share our 10 devices in groups, pairs, and sometimes we work as individuals.
My students absolutely love creating, communicating and practicing so many skills to be ready for Kindergarten.
Our roadblock is that we have iPad 2's which are no longer supported nor able to be updated. Therefore, we are no longer able to update or use most of our apps either.
My Project
This project will provide the 9th replacement iPad to help us toward our goal of updating our now out-dated class set of 10 iPad 2's. We have so many new plans for this year, but a current IOS is essential to achieve our learning needs. We will also continue our BookBuddy reading program with upper grade students, but this year, we will raise the bar to BookBuddies 2.0! The littles will create an illustration on the iPad to represent comprehension of a book read to them. This 2D illustration will be shared with the older partner, converted from 2D to 3D, then printed for the little so that they will have an artifact to remember their book. We will also be launching a new app "Seesaw" to empower the Pre-K students with easy to use tool choices to create, to record their voice, to demonstrate their learning, and to curate their artifacts.
This app will also facilitate communications between school and home: teacher to parent, parent to teacher, and even enable parents to view and to leave comments on their child's artifacts, giving them a window into the school day.
Lastly, but certainly not least, this app will assure that workflow and communications will be in place if we are faced with the need to distance learn again. Our 56 students will be prepared to gain optimum learning with optimal tools.
