Teacher Professional Development: I need to attend the 2015 International Literacy Conference to stay current on best practices on literacy instruction. <profdevpilot>

I am lucky enough to teach in the diverse community of New York City. I have a rainbow of students sitting in front of me every day and I love the challenge of finding new ways to meet their academic needs while keeping their learning fun and exciting.
I have been teaching elementary school for 10 years, and I'm happy to say that I LOVE my job.
I love the moment when my 1st graders make that connection with the content I'm teaching and understand the content! Recently there have been many changes in the field of education from new Common Core State Standards to making learning more multi-sensory so all learners will become successful. I'm one of those teachers who believes I am a student for life. When things change you need to adapt to the changes and incorporate them into your classroom. The best part about college for me was the opportunity to be at the front line learning the latest cutting edge skills to help students. Once I became a teacher I was disappointed to learn that my school system did not have the resources to send me to professional development and conferences that I felt would further my teaching skills.
I love reading and want to instill this love in my students. The International Literacy Conference would give me the opportunity to continue learning best literacy practices from the literacy leaders from over 300 sessions in different areas of literacy. I am especially interested in attending the session on efficient and effective decoding activities that are multi-sensory and simultaneously develop phonemic awareness skills. I will finally have the opportunity to learn more researched-based instructional practices that will help to improve the literacy skills of my diverse group of learners.
This professional development opportunity with more resources, strategies, and new ideas that I can bring back and use with my students.
Please help me achieve this dream of helping all my students become successful!
