My students enter my classroom ready to learn something new each day! At my small neighborhood school, we focus on the motto that we may be small, but we are mighty! My 3rd graders are a unique group of students made up of gifted learners, students with Autism, Emotional Disabilities, and everything in between. Our focus, as a class, is to lift one another up. I try each day to foster an environment where encouragement and uplifting comments flow freely.
Each day I try to think of new, hands-on, engaging activities to foster a love of learning in my students.
When my students are active participants of my classroom, I know that they are engaged and gaining a deeper understanding of the content.
My Project
All of my 3rd graders are excited to be learning their times tables! Multiplication is the core foundation of many other concepts, including division, fractions, and simple algebra. iPads with apps installed to help students master their multiplication facts quickly will boost confidence! My classroom ranges from students with special needs who are functioning more than one grade level below their peers, to gifted learners who excel in all subject areas. Individualized instruction is necessary to help them work and excel at their own pace.
Once students know their multiplication facts, they are more open to try challenging problems.
Students who still have to count out on their fingers find the process slow and, in the end, they feel defeated. As a teacher, I want more time to dig deep into more complex material. Students who are fluent in their math facts will confident and ready for this task!
iPads are a wonderful tool to open up a world of engagement and personalized learning for each of my students!
