My third-grade classroom is an exciting place for my suburban students from different cultures and economic demographics to learn and grow as scholars and citizens of a bigger world. They are taught and encouraged to work with others to challenge each other and themselves. It is a place where differences are celebrated and supported. As a class community, we understand that children learn in different ways and at different paces.
With that understanding in mind, students work together in teams to leverage each student’s strengths to help each other learn and grow.
Some students work best in groups, while others need some space to process information alone before engaging with others. Some students need hard copies of texts while others prefer digital or audio/visual access to those same or differentiated texts to best process and learn from them. The students are highly engaged in their learning and progress due to their input and investment in the process.
My Project
These books will be used in our informational unit of study as we explore countries and cultures from around the world. These vouchers will be used to get books about different countries, different religions and holidays and different ways of life and struggles of people around the world. We will also exchange them for biographies that will illustrate to the children how one person can impact the world around them.
Students will work in collaborative groups with children of different cultures, academic abilities, and interests to explore the world outside our town to learn about the importance of being a productive global citizen.
