Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are always excited when they enter the classroom especially on lab days. They enjoy hands-on activities, working in small groups and being able to explore with their peers.
My goal is to provide my students with an engaging, fun and safe learning environment.
My school is located in a low social economic neighborhood where 95% of the students are on free and reduced lunch. Most of my students are faced with many challenges in the classroom and at home.
My Project
My students need Fire Tablets to create digital stories. There are many free apps my students can download through the Google Play Store like Book Creator, Toontastic 3D, Strip Creator and much more. Book Creator allows students to create a digital book where Toontastic 3D helps students build a digital book in 3D. I think my students would love to create digital stories in comic form with Strip Creator.
Providing my students with a digital writing option to explain the how, the why, and their thought processes behind their STEM projects would be a priceless opportunity.
The Fire Tablets would provide my students not only with a wide variety of apps to help with the writing process, but also apps that can help extend their educational knowledge. The SAM Labs Curious Car Kit would give my students the chance to build and program their own cars and games. The Dash and Dot Robot Wonderpack will provide another opportunity to continue practicing their coding skills. Which I believe they will need for future careers. Both of these STEM Kits would provide my students with hands on content and connections to their digital stories. They would be able to use their imaginations and go beyond the classroom with digital stories about Dash and Dot Robots exploring the moon, cars that can fly or explain the rules to a game they created.
