My students are come from low social economic status. At our school, we offer free breakfast, lunch and dinner for students. In my class of 26, 7 students have a learning disability, 10 students are English Speaker of Other Language. They are coming to school with many challenges already and the last thing I want my students to feel when they come to school is how difficult it is in school. I want them to read materials that they can relate to and enjoy school.
The use of iPads in my classroom with my students will allow them to have the freedom to explore and express ideas whenever and wherever inspiration strikes. There are built-in apps that will help students with their communications, literacy, and appealing to all learners. With various apps, students can record, and generate videos movies as part of Universal Learning Design.
Ipads will be an effective tool to reach all learners: ELL, ESE, and general education learners.
For visual learners, iPads will have a colorful and vivid display of 3-D images either still shots or motion. As for auditory and ELL learners, with many features of the built-in app, learners can listen to books to hear the correct pronunciations. With the iPads, kinesthetic learners can stay engaged by being able to touch and manipulate images and icons with their hands.
Ipads will break the mold of the traditional classroom which is teacher-led learning. Using iPads in the classroom allows my students to be more engaged since they are actively searching, exploring, and gathering information and sharing it with others. Collaboration and activity help my students become more engaged and focused on the lesson which will help them retain more information.
