This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from Newark, NJ, an urban district that believes all children can learn. My students would much rather be in school, but are making the best of the situation at home. Lessons from various platforms such as Flocabulary, NewsELA & Nearpod are being assigned to engage students.

Their school classrooms have been replaced with their house, assignments replaced with Google and their communication replaced with chats; they need virtual classroom sessions to fully grasp the science lessons.

This year we are not only learning from one another, but supporting each other more than ever

My Project

Science is a subject that is taught best through example. Without being in the classroom with my students, it is extremely difficult for them to understand the lessons. Chatting back and forth doesn't allow me to connect with the class and get into the depth of the lesson; which leaves students very confused. Google Classroom & Nearpod are platforms I use to assign the lessons, discussions are needed for students to learn.

A MacBook is needed to engage students and stimulate discussion by simultaneously share science materials and have class discussions during Webex meetings which will in turn foster conceptual learning.

Here I can conduct live lessons, have peer to peer conversations and ask questions. Since schools are closed, virtual classes are the only way to facilitate student learning.
