My Students

My students are on their language learning journey to become users of Spanish. Many of them are just starting to learn Spanish (8th grade) and some of them are in the capstone course of high school (Advanced Placement - Spanish Language and Culture). My goal for my students is that they will leave Spanish class with the ability to communicate in Spanish in all modalities (reading, listening, writing, and speaking). In order to do this, they need a lot of input - i.e. books and other things to read in Spanish.

I want to get my students excited about reading in Spanish by providing them with books in Spanish that are accessible to their current level of understanding while being high interest and culturally relevant.

My Project

The books I want for my students are written at the proficiency level of the students, which makes them comprehensible to students because they use a limited number of unique words. I am excited for my students to have books like Sueños de La Isla, a story about two brothers and their love for baseball written in two different tenses.

Students will choose which books to read and having a wide variety allows them to pick a book that matches their passions and reading level.

Reading will help them achieve higher Spanish proficiency by giving them lots of comprehensible input.
