My students are curious and enthusiastic learners in a Project Based Learning school!
Our school opened four years ago with a vision of empowering innovative thinkers to positively impact the world around them with compassion and integrity. My students know that their school is different, and they have pride in that fact. They are challenged with real world problems that require them to use critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication.
My Project
In a 21st century classroom, technology is used in so many more ways than just locating information. Students use it to engage in collaboration, practice skills, evaluate information and creatively communicate ideas. Adding iPads to our classroom will help my students do just that!
In Project Based Learning, students are asked to engage in the cycle of inquiry.
After a challenging problem or question has been posed, students need to be given the freedom and resources to ask questions, research possible solutions, and develop new questions along the way. My students will use the iPads to read online articles, look at images, or watch videos in their search for information.
Another key element of PBL is creating a public product that is shared with an authentic audience. Students will be able to use online tools to collaboratively share ideas and work on creative ways to share their findings with the community.
iPads will also help individual students strengthen their foundational skills. Online reading programs will help all students, but especially those with reading challenges who could benefit from audible books and highlighted texts. In addition, students will be able to use the iPads to take pictures of their math work and orally record their thinking and reasoning. All of their work on iPads will be saved on digital portfolios where they can celebrate their growth throughout the year.
