Elementary and Middle School students enter the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) classroom with excited smiles. They love learning through the design process and using new technology and tools.
Students at our rural school have learned to expect the unexpected in our classroom.
It is not unusual to see projects spread out, collaboration around screens and tools used next to art supplies. Problem-solving and embracing mistakes are important aspects in our classroom. It is not always fun to struggle, but problems are viewed as an expected part of the design process.
My Project
This robot will continue to enhance the MakerSpace classroom that I strive to create. My classroom is an exciting place that my students really enjoy. They make, design, create and learn through failure! Every student tool that is used in my MakerSpace classroom is treated with respect, and they know how lucky we are to have these resources. This additional robot has been chosen with my students in mind. I already purchased two Spheros Sparks to test them out in the classroom. They are a huge hit with the students and the learning happening while coding is a hit with this teacher!
Adding a Sphero Spark to our classroom family will allow more students to code and drive through student or teacher created experiences, instead of just watching.
The best way to improve computer programing ability is to code more, make mistakes and learn from them. This robot will provide a fun and exciting way to help my students grow more confident in their computer programing ability. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in coding, and this project will only help enrich their experiences.
