I teach on average of 20 first grade students each year. Many of my students are from low-income families, or single parent homes, and/or have a parent(s), who may not have a high school diploma or GED. The school district is located in a high poverty area. All students receive free meals, both breakfast and lunch. In addition, students have the opportunity to attend a free after school program to receive assistance with homework and other academic needs.
Despite varying obstacles, my students come to school eager to learn.
However, many students struggle with building the foundations of reading and need additional resources to help them become life-long learners.
My Project
While learning how to read, many beginning readers struggle with putting sounds together to form words and are unable to read for meaning. Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablets will offer students interactive apps to practice phonemic awareness, phonic skills, reading fluency and comprehension skills.
Technology has a way of sparking an excitement in students toward learning.
I will add apps that strategically target daily reading goals for struggling, on level, and advanced readers.
Your generous donation to my class project, will help improve and increase student attention and focus as well as increase their academic achievement. Your support will be greatly appreciated!
