My students need STEM activity kits, math addition and subtraction games, blocks with blueprints, and coding activities to help strengthen their problem solving skills.
We are a Title I school located in a small rural town in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Our school is 100% free breakfast and lunch due to the number of low-income families that attend our school.
I have a classroom full of amazing little learners.
They are curious, energetic, very social, and eager to learn. I've found that they work wonderfully together when they have opportunities to explore, converse, and create together. They also LOVE having technology incorporated into their learning. My students have a love for learning and I want to help cultivate that by giving them fun and meaningful learning materials.
My Project
The materials we are hoping to get will give more hands-on learning experiences in reading, math, and science! The math games will give students a fun way to improve their math fact fluency. There are many learning benefits with blocks and blue prints. Students will gain spacial reasoning skills, practice 3-D building, develop early STEM skills. The coding activities will be beneficial to all learners to increase their critical thinking skills but especially to my visual learners. As they learn to "program" the activities, they will increase their problem solving and sequencing skills as well as gain programming fundamentals. All of the materials will give students opportunities to read technical texts-directions, how-to, and step by steps.
These activities will be wonderful additions to our math and STEM centers.
I also have a couple learners with special learning and behavior needs that I can see greatly benefiting from these activities at different times during the day when they need a moment alone to have their hands AND minds busy. I have also requested some storage containers to help keep the materials organized.
