Help me give my students books about music and art along with unique art supplies like oil pastels, scratch art paper, texture paper, and peel & stick pom -poms to compliment what we already have.
For the majority of my students, coming to kindergarten is their first experience away from home and especially with school. My school is an A+ Arts magnet public school, meaning that students will learn math, reading, science, and social studies with art, dance, drama, and music integration. This program helps make learning much more interesting, and even when it's difficult, aids in bringing in other students to our low-income community and assists with promoting more versatile children.
We are trying to give our kids every opportunity that they need like the arts programs, free breakfast and lunch, and hands-on, differentiated learning options.
I want my students actively trying new and difficult learning activities, rather than shying away from them. My top priority is to make learning a positive experience for every student so that they believe they can be successful. But, this presents a problem when resources are limited.
My Project
My students LOVE learning through music, drama, and crafts. I try to find distinctive items for them to use when they are demonstrating their knowledge. They love getting to make their own choice about which supplies they want to use to create projects to show what they have learned. My students have trouble getting the pom-poms that we currently have to efficiently stick to whatever they are creating, so I hope that the self adhesive ones will help them to be more successful. Because of all their fun creations, we are always running low on Elmer's Glue. I believe that the oil pastels will deliver a contrasting medium to the normal crayons and markers that they normally use. Last year I had some of the Scratch Art papers for students to use during sight word practice. I'm eager to provide more of these sheets for students to use in whatever artsy ways they can imagine. I can also envision the wonderful designs they can make using the color reveal texture paper. It will be creativity at it's best!

By exploring the books about the stories of different types of music, my students will be able to add individual music types to their productions. The art books will hopefully trigger the unique personality that each of my student's has to offer in their work.
