Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Everyday my students enter the classroom, pickup their binders, and get right to work on their Do Now activity. However, with one hundred thirty students and just one small bookshelf, locating those binders in a tiny classroom can be a challenge.
I teach Social Studies to a phenomenal bunch of 8th graders at a Title I middle school in central New Jersey.
A large number of the students in the school are on free and reduced lunch. That number is overrepresented in my classroom because I teach several Special Education sections. Imagination and eagerness to learn has never been a problem for my students. Organization on the other hand has been.
My Project
It is for this reason that I'm asking for your support in getting them ready to learn. I'm requesting a book shelf so that they can easily locate their binders and get right to work. Without this bookshelf crucial instruction time and potentially months of work could be lost. I've also requested dividers to help each individual student organize their binder so they can locate their notes and assignments quickly and efficiently. Everything students do in class remains a part of that binder. They are used in conferences, projects, test review, and to identify their strengths and weaknesses. So it is crucial that students are able to locate their binders and easily find the materials inside of it.
With your support students will maximize instruction time, keep and maintain a portfolio, and enter the classroom better prepared to learn.
It also will be easier for me to monitor individual progress and focus instruction where it is most needed. With your help the students will perform more efficiently and achieve more. Please, please, please help me provide these wonderful kids with the classroom they deserve.
