Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We are starting our athletic program from scratch, with big dreams and little resources. I coordinate athletics for 3 high schools and we've gone from 1 sport to 15 sports offered in the past 2 years.

My students need to be able to copy their academic reports and their medical forms so we can file their information and prove their athletic eligibility to the principals and the varsity league before they are allowed to play.

We need a copier in the Fitness and Athletics Office! Students often rush around to gather their papers and then I rush around trying to find a working copier...and by that time they're late to class or I am. Sometimes, the big copiers are all broken and the one report that needs copying just can't get done. The student must wait to play and I must wait for repairs and free moments to rush to the copy line and wait some more. These are missed practices. These are missed games. These are missed opportunities for our kids to succeed.

We provide opportunities for students to have access to positive after school athletic options. Paperwork, red tape, and the fact that most of them have never been involved in any official programs before, make it difficult for students to get involved and stay involved. You will make it possible for them to play, somewhere safe with encouraging adults. You will give them access to exercise that improves their health and a team community that supports their dreams.
