Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students we service are predominantly of Hispanic ethnicity and from a low socioeconomic background. Most of our student population derives from non-English speaking families. We have students who are eager to learn but are lacking background knowledge and foundation skills. Our students also lack self-confidence and are in need of inspirational acts. We believe that our students will benefit greatly if a youth speaker will address them at our school. Unfortunately, the majority of our students have limited experiences as they come from households in which education is not valued. Our hard working parents believe work rather than school is more important. Many students come to school with the presumption that education is not important.
My Project
As a new teacher, I lack manipulatives and Math resources that are essential to the learning experience. The manipulatives and games will ensure that my student attains a better understanding of math concepts. Hands-on activities will definitely help concrete learners make connections and grasp information easier.
The games, such as the Allowance game, will help build a deeper understanding by providing real-life examples.
Students will be able to enhance learning by making meaningful connections. They will be able to relate to the concept in an engaging manner. These items will be used all year long to help promote purposeful learning in an engaging way.
