My students need fiction and non fiction books like Hungty, Hungry Sharks!, What Do You Do With With a Tail Like This?, Chocolate Fever, and many others. These books will supplement their summer reading to help maintain and promote growth of their current reading levels.
My students come from low-income families who do not have the resources necessary to provide a learning environment at home. Most of them come from homes where parents do not work or homes where their family struggles to pay for basic needs. Our school is a Title 1 School with a high percentage of students on free and reduced lunch.
My students want to learn and grow their academic levels but lack the resources needed to achieve this at home.
They need books on their level so that they can maintain and grow as a reader.
My Project
My students need fiction and non fiction books like Hungty,, Hungry Sharks!, What. Do You Do With With a Tail Like This?, Chocolate Fever, and many others. These books will supplement their summer reading to help maintain and promote growth of their current reading levels We strive to put 5 books in every students hand to promote reading over the summer. Statistics show students lose 1 or more reading levels over the summer. With these books in hand, our students will have the necessary resources to not only maintain growth in reading but also to achieve a higher level upon return to school. Students have the chance to pick a set amount of books that are donated that they want to read and feel are on or slightly above their reading level. It truly puts the joy and love of reading in their hearts when they have books to call their own.
