In August, I will have a room full of bright-eyed first graders. These students attend a a low-income (Title I)public school in Virginia. They are curious, fun, wiggly, kids! I am hoping to purchase a rug so we can begin our day as a community with morning meetings and have a cozy space to learn and collaborate throughout our day. The rug is where we learn- not only academically but emotionally and socially. We begin each day with a class meeting and end each day with an afternoon meeting. A rug with enough space for all students would help our classroom community thrive!
Our classroom needs a large, clean rug that will allow all students in the class to collaborate as a class community.
A rug is the heart of the classroom.
It's where students begin and end each day. Before students are ready to learn academically the stage is set by building a strong class community. Where is the best place to do that? You guessed it! Together, on a cozy rug in the middle of a classroom full of learning.
Not only does our day begin and end on the rug, but kids love to hop on the floor and dive into a good book or use the rug to collaborate with classmates. A classroom rug is the heart of the classroom!
