My Students

My students are wonderful, curious, hardworking, thoughtful sixth graders. In our language arts classroom, we have the chance to learn and grow together through reading, writing, and meaningful discussions each and every day.

I am a first year teacher and these students remind me each day why I chose this profession.

They think deeply about their reading, practice new writing strategies, and question things that they do not understand. My students are knowledgable about technology and always ready to start something new.

My goal is to prepare each and every one of my students for life beyond the walls of my classroom. To do so, I not only need to teach the content, but provide a safe space for students to learn and grow in life. This is my vision for my classroom, and I strive to provide such a space each day.

My Project

In our classroom, my students are asked to read and analyze texts, share their thinking in discussions, complete engaging writing tasks, illustrate their interpretation of a story, or cut and paste tools into their interactive notebooks. These strategies will allow my students to develop and hone their literacy skills. All of these tasks require materials that we don't always have access to. Pencils, highlighters, coloring supplies, sticky notes, and scissors are all supplies that allow my students to properly participate in each lesson. When annotating a text, they will be able to take notes on their sticky notes to save for the class discussion in our next lesson. While illustrating the key events in the plot of a myth, they will be able to draw and color the images they are imagining. Most importantly - when students come to class without a pencil, I will be able to provide them with one.

By funding this project, you will be helping to provide students with the tools they need to excel as 21st century readers and writers in a clean and healthy classroom.
