Our students love to read, and enjoy coming to the library to find both new books, and old favorites. When books they are anxious to read are not available, it can be frustrating to young readers.
Our students are especially involved in series books.
They love the idea of continuing characters and, at times, treat the book characters as if they were personal friends. That's why they are so anxious to read new books in favorite series. It's also why they become concerned when older books are missing from beloved series. This happens all too often with very popular books.
This grant would help fill in the holes in our collection, to the delight of our eager readers.
My Project
My students love to read and, naturally, I encourage this. One of the keys is having the books that they are excited about readily available in our school library. When we don't have those books, great disappointment ensues.
Survival books are especially hot right now, with my older students.
They like books that tell of actual historical events, and how people survived them. They also like books that allow them to make choices, and see if they would survive in a dangerous situation.
This type of book truly gets our readers involved. I think they like facing danger in a fiction setting, rather than in real life.
