My students need snap circuits to learn about snaptricity, legos to build different STEM challenges, and Chromebooks to research and record their engineering findings.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are explorers that come into my classroom eager to learn. They have a passion for science and want to dive into hands-on projects. I teach math, science, and social studies to these extraordinary kiddos.
My classes consists of 68 amazing students.
The families at my school are primarily middle-class, but as a result, the school has very minimal state funding and does not receive any Title I money. This means there is is no money available for the resorces needed for STEAM exploration or the technology needeed to research these projects.
My Project
I have taught math/science in the elementary school setting for the last three years using project-based learning. In doing so I have seen first hand that many students love science, but have a fear of math. I'm working to change that one class at a time.
A maker space with legos and circuit boards is a perfect way to incorporate hands-on math in a non-threatening and fun way.
In addition, students are using problem-solving and social skills to work together and communicate while solving fun engineering challenges. The use of Chromebooks to research, record, and share possible solutions is also a way to incorporate 21st-century skills in our classroom.
