Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the best! They are each unique, fun, and kind in their own way. Many come from the rich area of Barrio Logan, bringing their culture with them to school each day. Our school is a Title 1 school, with many students receiving free breakfast and lunch.
Students are eager to learn and come to school each day with open minds and open hearts.
Students thrive with hands-on activities that allow them to interact with one another in meaningful ways and gain understanding for their little minds. They continue to ask questions about the world that we live in.
My Project
This project focuses on architecture and what that looks like to a Kindergarten student. Materials for this project will be used to construct and create different structures and buildings, focusing on students as the creators. Students will create blueprints on their own, build with legos and blocks, and produce their own structure using boxes, markers, stickers, glue, and other materials.
Students will explore the architectural world around them and then bring those ideas to the classroom to begin the creative process as architects.
We will be focusing on Math and Science while also bringing in literature, art, and writing to gain a better understanding of what it means to be an architect in Kindergarten. I want the sky to be the limit for these students as they build and create in a way that is meaningful to them. These materials will allow for that to happen.
