My students need hands-on activities such as Snap Circuits to foster creativity to discover what will spark their journey towards being life long learners.
My kids come from all walks of life, every demographic you can possibly imagine. In the library, I will work with every student in my school at some point during the year. Our school strives to show every student that they are lifelong learners. Some students do not believe it, but how do you spark every students' passion for learning? By giving students opportunities to be creative, to tinker, to learn more about what they love in a space where they can be curious about anything and everything.
The opportunities for students to learn about what they love and are interested in is key to building the foundations for lifelong learning.
Every student is a unique individual. The idea of finding the spark that lights the love of learning for every child is daunting. I hope to introduce them to different opportunities in a Makerspace in the library to help them find that interest and starting them on their journey. Every student deserves those opportunities.
My Project
The library used to be a strictly silent place for reflection, work and reading. It is time to change that perception. The mission of a library of the 21st century is one where all kids can come and find something that interests them. Students coming to the library can find a book, code on their laptops, tinker and create with small, hands-on projects such as LEGOs, teach themselves about electric current by building with Snap Circuits and creating accessories with Duct Tape found in books such as, "Awesome Duct Tape Projects", by Choly Knight.
The school library of today needs to be a hub of innovation and creativity that welcomes students of all ages, abilities and interests.
Through your generosity, my students will be able to use these activities in a new Makerspace in our library. These specific hands-on activities were chosen because they were just a few of the activities mentioned in the blogs of librarian media specialists who have successful Makerspaces and they have universal appeal to reach many different learners in my school. Thank you.
