Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is our first year as an IB PYP (International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme) campus. Using the IB PYP curriculum, my students will transition as learners who have been taught subject to subject to students who will be taught using trans-disciplinary themes. These themes will not only include core subjects but also major concepts. This curriculum will develop them into real world thinkers who are internationally minded.

Second grade is such an amazing year to teach and watch them transition into independent learners.

They may come in being able to read simple words and sentences and end their year taking on chapter books! They are very curious about the world around them and eager to learn. During this year they really begin to take on the responsibility of their own learning.

My Project

My 2nd grade class has already grown by 4 students since school has started. That's 4 more desks made to fit somewhere in the classroom. With the amount of students and limited space we have in the classroom, it's hard to move around. When students are seated, chairs bump into each other and instantly create blockades. As soon as a student needs to navigate around the room it becomes an obstacle course full of interrupting 'excuse mes' and 'can you move your chair?'

By replacing some of our classroom desks with other table top options and the chairs with other seating options, my students would be able to enjoy their uninterrupted learning space.

This would also create more flexible seating options in the classroom. Having seating options in a classroom makes learning more enjoyable and engaging.

If we fit, we sit, and learn more happily!
