My students need independent listening centers to help them master reading skills in a fun and different way.

Now that I am a teacher, I realize why reading was always a struggle for me. It was not because I could not read. It was because I could not tackle the skills I needed in order to COMPREHEND what I was reading. I do not want my students to miss out on the FUN world of reading, will you help?
I am a third grade teacher at a title one, low income, primary school.
The children at my school live in high-need communities and/or move often due to a family member being in the military. Despite these obstacles, the kids are high-energy, eager learners.
My students often struggle with reading and reading comprehension because they do not always have the consistency they need at home in order to build a solid foundation in reading. As mentioned above, this was a struggle of mine as well so it hits really close to heart! It was not because my parents did not want to help me, instead it was because they were hard workers dedicated to making sure I had food on the table and a roof over my head. Especially during today's economic times, I feel that this is even more true these days.
It is for this reason that I would LOVE to have these listening centers for my students to be able to use at home.
I want to help support my students and their parents by being able to send each student home with a CD player (thanks to DonorsChoose!) and a listening center at least once a week. This way they will be able to practice reading on their own, but have the support they need. This support would be provided through each listening center's activities and CD.
