My students are the most curious, intrigued, entry-level programmer type students that you will ever meet. They come to school smiling, ready to take on the challenges of the day. They have to work hard. Many of them are second language learners. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and once a month, Second Harvest brings my children nourishing fruits and vegetables. Life is not easy for them, but nothing is going to stop them from learning and being the best they can be.
My Project
I was privileged to tour the Levi Stadium Educational Center. In the center were these whiteboard tables. I have never seen so many students just wanting to get into math because they could write on the table. It was easier for them to share ideas, help each other out and just work more effectively. We have our first table. Four students selected and WOW! No drawing but math and sentence framing and ideas on this table. I am so impressed I am wanting to get each student this availability.
Several students asked if I would try to get a grant from DonorsChoose.org to get us whiteboard tables for the class, so here I am, doing what they asked.
I sat down, while students were gone and tried it out, WOW! My lesson plans, my ideas, my needs and wants came at a very comfortable flow. I just thought if this does this for me. I realize why the students who are sitting at the table are growing. WE NEED THESE!
My students brought up a key point--no more waste of paper! We can easily see the examples and the work being done, therefore we can learn from each other.
