Our school is a Title I school which means that a high percentage of students come from low income families. For many of my students, coming to school is their safe haven. This is where they explore, learn and grow not only as students but kids as well. Some of our students have great support at home, while others receive all of their love from teachers at school. However, no matter where they come from, they show up to class each day ready to learn. They truly are my inspiration and I make sure they know this every day!
Work Hard, Stay Humble.
This is our classroom mantra. Every morning we say our classroom mantra and talk about ways that we can work hard and stay humble in school as well as away. As a teacher, I want to develop my students into strong learners as well as strong individuals who believe they can conquer anything. They are determined, focused, and fearless when it comes to learning. Each and every day they come to class ready to work hard. There is something to be proud of every day with this group of kids!
My Project
From the first day of school, my students have been begging to have a book read aloud to them. There is something about having your students listen and buying into a good book. We read chapter books as well as picture books. Many students in the class come from lower-income families and do not have full access to books at home. I allow students to take books home to read with their families.
The students love when they can relate to characters within the stories.
For many students in class, reading is their great escape. In this project, I have chosen books that would be engaging, culturally immersive, and inspiring.
