My students need a heart model and dissection kits to guide them as they dissect sheep hearts to uncover how our circulatory system works. We will examine actual sheep brains as we explore neurons.
My students are our future scientists! They energetically enter the class, smiling, giving out fist bumps, and they are full of curiosity. They are unstoppable at solving problems, and designing innovative solutions.
They are creative, courageous, and enthusiastic problem solvers.
We need to give them the tools they need today, to strengthen their skills for tomorrow. They love conquering challenges. We need these kinds of innovators in our communities. There isn't a day that goes by where they don't demonstrate that they will make a difference in our world!
My Project
Many of our students will choose paths in health care careers. Those that don’t will surely increase their family’s health or their own by being able to ask informed questions and having a greater understanding of how our systems work.
Examining human structures and functions makes a lot more sense when you can examine first hand an actual heart, or brain.
Knowing more than how a neuron fires by examining a sheep's brain tissue can make those important connections needed to comprehend something as complex as our nervous system.
We all can take our heart rate and feel our pulse, but discovering how the blood pumps through one-way valves, and seeing first hand how the left ventricle is so much larger than any of the other heart chambers, is eye opening. To feel how strong the heart muscles are because they never rest makes all our inquiries and research connect and make sense! Having the human heart model to compare and guide this research is fascinating to our young future scientists!
Many of my students have no idea what a heart, brain or other tissues actually look and feel like. Examining real organs makes the study of systems come alive. These unforgettable experiences can forge into future careers. Give them a helping hand so they can have these unforgettable scientific experiences.
