My Students

My students come from a low-income/high poverty area of our school district. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. A large percent of them receive free or reduced-price school lunch.

Many face hunger, insecurity, lack of responsibility and ownership.

The students are not presented with many opportunities outside of school, to learn and work in the arts. School is their place to feel safe and confident. They get so excited when they come into school. They run in and greet everyone with hugs and smiles.

My Project

Paintbrushes are quite often the most used art tool in my Art Room. All students love to paint and ask every day if they will indeed be painting. I would like to answer "YES" to them every time.

We take good care of our brushes but they can only paint so many wonderful artworks before they wear out.

We struggle to find a class set of the same brush for specific projects, to the extent that we take turns with the "good" brushes.

Having new brushes will bring joy to the students and allow them to use all of their time in Art on their own projects and not worrying about the quality of the brush they have to work with.
