Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school was established in the 1950s and has grown rapidly over the past five years from a student population of 1,400 to a current enrollment of 2,100 plus.

In this area, students can choose among five community high schools.

Ours used to be the least favorite, but it is now number two--in part because of our dedication to Project Based Learning.

Academically, we now compete with schools who have far greater advantages. Over half of our students qualify for Free and Reduced Meals. Many do not have access to technology outside of the classroom. Nevertheless, they persist.

My Project

Our students need class sets of headphones to be able to access digital content and have screen content "read" to them. Our classrooms are stocked with Chromebooks, but the lack of headphones makes them digital books rather than the multi-media devices they ought to be.

Class sets of headphones will allow them to listen to videos, podcasts, and audible texts.

Our English classes often contain supplemental instruction that contains audio texts, and many special education students benefit from having digital content "read" to them

Listening is learning. Using as many senses as possible to learn is important. Thank you for helping students access content!
