"Does this sound familiar, "Can I go out and play?" and "Can so and so come out and play?" These are some of the familiar and frequent cries of children. It seems impossible to think about childhood or young children without also thinking of playing outdoors. But in the city, this can be difficult.
I am a teacher in a full day pre-kindergarten class in a large, New York City school.
The children I teach are coming from working class families and many struggle financially. The children are all between the ages of three and five. They are curious, fun loving, energetic, silly, loving and creative little people. I feel that the addition of two scooters would really benefit the children and improve our early childhood program.year old. We hope you decide to become a part of our lives by helping to provide two scooters for our yard.
My Project
Play is not something that children do just because they do not have anything better to do. Its what they do! Physical play helps children grow strong and healthy. Body coordination improves when children play in a physical way. It also builds muscles! Children burn energy which makes them tired and hungry. This helps them eat and sleep better, a wonderful thing!
Socially, children can learn so much while riding a scooter. While playing, they will learn to take turns and share. They will also discuss feelings, listen and talk to playmates, and follow rules. They will learn to lead and learn to follow while pedaling their new scooters. Young children do not learn in the same way as older children do. They learn by actual contact with real objects, events, and people. That's why outdoor play and field trips are so important! They need to learn everything about everything! It's vitally important to them, play is life itself to a five year old.
Good physical play gives children a feeling of success while feeling good about themselves.
Lets not forget, the important life lesson-independence. Can you help us to achieve our goal of possessing two shiny yellow scooters? We hope you decide to become a part of our lives by helping to provide two scooters for our yard. We thank you for reading our proposal and hope you decide to become a part of our lives by helping to provide two scooters for our recess time in the Big Apple.
