My Students

My Kindergarteners enter the classroom excited everyday. We are building team skills such as sharing, compassion and kindness. We work very hard through songs, hands on tasks and movement activities.

Our classroom furniture or lack of is interfering with our learning.

Usually the room is full of giggles and smiles, yet when we try to do a small group game or lesson together, we are having to stop constantly to readjust the board or cards so that the group can see and participate. With 5 year old kindergarteners, that’s all the time it takes to lose their attention. My kinders are full of life, a desire to learn, and the energy of a race horse. Many of them remind me of Tiggers.

I would like to be able to meet comfortably with my small groups to do lessons, coach and play games with my little gems.

My Project

At this time most small group teaching is done with my kindergarteners sitting on the floor with their papers on a small chalkboard to support the work. To give help it takes much moving around to get near the child. Thus, the group loses their momentum and concentration. After sitting for 15 minutes on the floor kindergarteners begin to get uncomfortable which ends the lesson.

A small group table will increase the teacher child proximity for learning, allow for sharing of materials, participation in social conversation and monitoring activity engagement!
