Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are so happy to have our students back in the building to learn and grow, but we have noticed a deficit in coping strategies to calm down when upset. Because of COVID-19 the students are not used to the social aspects of school and are struggling to use skills to calm down when upset.

We have an empty room at our school that we want to transform into the IES Treehouse to use as a calm-down room available to all students.

This room has concrete floors and is not being utilized to its full potential. We are asking for a rug, and other sensory-type furniture in order to make this room a safe place for students to practice their coping skills. We also have two self-contained classes on campus that would greatly benefit from this calm-down room. I am the school counselor at this school and know how much an accessible space like this can help our students. Please help us create this safe space for our IES Eagles. Thanks!
