Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a group of diverse kindergarten through fifth grade boys and girls from Central Florida who present wonderful project ideas that I must reject because we simply cannot provide the resources. All of my students have Varying Exceptionalities making them extra special. My students are kind, sweet, eager to engage and accepting of each other and those around them. Most of my students and their families could not afford to bring in all of the basic supplies on the class list this year.
Our high poverty county has suffered through extreme budget cuts.
All of the students at this Title I school are on the government free or reduced-price lunch program. In my classroom, our goal is to enrich all of my students and to close the achievement gap for these students, especially being as they all have special needs. We also aim to provide them with all of the equipment necessary so that they may achieve the skills needed to succeed in life. I want to strengthen their academic progress, bringing them up to their highest potential.
My Project
All of my students have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Their IEP's consist of goals such as communication goals, curriculum goals, social/emotional behavior goals, and independent functioning goals. Their goals are set based off their progress throughout the school year and are decided upon as a team between the students education team and their parents. Goals are unique to each student and are designed to help students reach grade/age appropriate functioning. Their IEP's also consist of any accommodations the student might need during classroom learning and/or testing.
Data collection is key; it allows us to see how much progress the student has made and helps us determine new, more challenging goals for the following IEP school year.
The binders and dividers will help me track all of my student's IEP's and data by assigning each student their own binder. It will also serve as a place to hold student work samples, services/therapy notes, etc. Each student having their own binder will also make it easier for them to know what they are personally working on without getting their work mixed up with another students work.
