Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with a diverse group of adolescents. I enjoy providing students with resources that interest them and relate to their health on all levels: emotional, social, physical, and sexual. Our Health Department is working to create a video library that is as dynamic as the students we serve.

Straightlaced How Gender's Got Us All Tied Up by Debra Chasnoff is one video title that resonates with our students, and we want to add it to our Health Department video library.

The video titles that we are working to compile include LGBTQ themes. Identity-affirming videos have the potential to engender positive self-conception and self-worth while improving a student's overall academic engagement and success. I want to create an equity-minded and identity-affirming environment where students feel safe, appreciated, and welcome. Videos that allow students to put themselves in someone else's shoes can also be a powerful tool for developing empathy. In this ever-changing world, our Health Department video library needs to reflect the diversity of our students. The protein snacks will help hungry students to concentrate in the classroom. Thank you for supporting inclusion, diversity, equity, and identity affirmation in our classroom.
