The students that attend this quaint little school on the outskirts of New Orleans are eager to learn. The majority of the students come from low socio-economic backgrounds where sometimes, their love for learning simply isn't enough. All of the students at this school qualify for free breakfast and lunch to ensure their brains are fueled for their day.
Helping these students become life long readers and learners is probably the greatest gift I could ever give them.
My students will be able to create change in their learning habits that will provide a one-way ticket for success!
My Project
These materials will help my students tremendously. In fourth grade, they are required to notice an author's craft and structure. They need to be able to answer questions like "Why did the author choose to create a certain character? Why did the author include text features?" When trying to answer these questions, a lot of thinking is required.
My students are some of the hardest workers, but they need materials to help organize their thoughts.
When they have post-its to take notes and organize their thoughts, they have the ability to making thinking a fluid process. I've seen it in action, but we need more supplies.
