My Students

Benjamin Franklin once said, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." In my classroom, children will be invited to take risks, ask questions, explore, discuss, interpret, and create. I am dedicated to my passion for teaching and even more to the needs of my students.

My students come from various family dynamics and homes, but the majority of them are from low-income families.

For these students school is more than just a place to learn, it is a place to grow, a safe place and most importantly a place where each student can be comfortable to be themselves.

Fifth grade is an essential year before students move onto middle school. I am fortunate to have students with such creative minds as well as motivation to succeed. It is my job and passion to foster this creativity and wiliness that continues to grow in each of my students. My students are held to high expectations in my classroom. It continues to be an exciting journey watching each student rise to the occasion and exceed what is expected in all kinds of ways.

My Project

What better way to understand a child’s thinking and knowledge than to have their ideas come to life? Technology is no longer our future, it is our now. Everyday students are experiencing new technological advances right before than eyes, let’s put their hands and minds behind the work.

There comes a time when textbooks, pictures and videos are just not enough.

Our school has adopted a full hands on science curriculum that will allow for more STEM based learning. With this in mind, I would like to see my students go one step further and expand their thinking, knowledge and creativity. A great way to allow for this is to have access to a 3D printer and 3D pens in our very own classroom.

A 3D printer would encourage students to plan and design their ideas and thinking on a whole new level. The possibilities are endless.

Imagine a student center classroom where students debate on different scientific and engineering theories. First, the students will ask questions and then, what separates traditional from new age learning, test their theories. With instant access to a 3D printer students have an infinite array of tools and models that can be used to carry out their investigation.

The 3D pens will allow for a more individualized perspective on carrying out a design plan. No need for a computer to help make one’s ideas a reality, instead the designing is carried out completely by the student. Make a mistake, not a problem, we call that trial and error. With their ideas literally in their hands, students can pinpoint what needs to be fixed, or adjusted in their design. The ability to manipulate and closely examine what is being studied better allows for a full engagement and understanding of their learning.
