This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students all live within a 5-mile radius of the school, with the large majority residing in one of the many apartment complexes surrounding this community. 100% of our students qualify for a free breakfast and free lunch program. Our school is one of the most ethnically diverse in our county with students representing more than 20 countries. Approximately half of our students are bilingual. We have wonderful programs in place to help students realize their full potential and families to get the resources they need to foster that success. What these students lack economically, they make up for in human spirit and determination. They make you want to work harder every day because they are so worth the time! We're going places!
My Project
As we build on our social emotional learning in our school, I plan to use growth mindset thinking to motivate my students to be team players and academic leaders in my classroom. Students will receive an ID badge and lanyard at the beginning of the year and then earn brag tags for positive attitudes, academic achievements, and team effort.
As students master a concept, we will celebrate their achievement by rewarding them a new brag tag during morning meeting.
Students can wear their lanyards throughout the day, so others will see their accomplishments. They will get to take them home to share with their parents at the end of each quarter.
Having an Epson Printer and Crenova Laminator will allow me to create dozens of colorful brag tags for my students to earn and wear as we progress through this unprecedented school year.
