iCharge, iLearn, iReady: Charging Station for Scholars

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of 27 fun loving second and third graders, active students who are hardworking and eager to succeed and learn. My students are eager to learn and to demonstrate their understanding of difficult concepts.

We are in a socioeconomic area where most of the students in the school are on free breakfast and lunch.

Each child comes from a unique background that often needs support. My class includes students that are gifted and talented, struggling readers, and many English Language Learners. While they face many unique challenges and issues, all are eager to succeed and are hardworking scholars. Our students are our future so we must do everything in our power to help them learn about the world around them.

My Project

I want them to be excited about building math and reading skills as they follow along with interesting activities. My students use iPads and Chromebooks on a daily basis. With 27 year students plugging and unplugging cables all day, the cords get tangled and broken. This charging station will house 5 of our iPads and 5 Chromebooks to prevent having broken cables and plugs. This charging station will allow for all the devices to be charged together - saving valuable space. The technology in our class is used for many things: Writer's Workshop research, Literature Study 'Blogs', Social Studies mapping activities with Google 'my maps', and many others. This project will save us so much time by solving the organization and management issue that we have when trying to store and charge our devices. My students will be able to easily connect their device on their own and not have to untangle cords for iPads and Chromebooks.

This purchase will make a difference for my students by allowing for easy access to charged devices for their research and writing projects.

The availability of technology is a blessing, and making sure that it is ready when needed, in both a timely and safe manner will increase each student's exposure to a variety of powerful learning opportunities - each opportunity providing enrichment in class, while preparing them to be an asset to the work force of the future.
