Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a third-grade teacher with 21 students who are just waiting to reach their full potential. My students are uniquely and widely varied in their learning styles, achievement levels, backgrounds, and favorite Fortnite dances. Forty-one percent of students at our school receive free of reduced-priced lunch. Many students do not have the use of technology at home, which in today's world is a necessary skill.
Technology helps level the playing field.
Because we have so many learning levels and academic goals in one classroom, I need to be able to individualize instruction as much as possible. One to one devices makes this goal much more achievable. In addition, as an International Baccalaureate school, our school is committed to encouraging students to be internationally minded. Easy access to technology gives students a door to the world around them.
My Project
Technology is an important part of the 21st Century and I am requesting an iPad to help provide more individualized instruction in reading and math. My students are on vastly different academic levels, from below grade level to 1-2 levels above grade level. I individualize instruction as much as possible through small group instruction during which students learn and work by going through stations. I will be using the iPad to add to my existing, but limited, technology station. Students will be able to work on math and reading skill assigned specifically for their level, while I am working with other students.
The donations to the project will help students experience success and confidence while I will easily be able to monitor their progress.
One important goal for my third graders is passing the state-mandated standardized test. By monitoring their progress and assigning appropriate learning activities on the iPad I will be able to help students reach this important goal.
