Mrs. Sapienza from Louisville KY is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a Kindle to be able to unlock and explore the love of reading books using technology.

Do you remember what it was like to be a superhero or a pirate battling at sea? My students would be able to explore adventures that can only be truly experienced through escaping in a good book. My students do not always have the patience to read a book. Technology can spark interest to read again.
My elementary school is the first IB World School in the state of Kentucky.
My students explore and learn through inquiry and hands-on experiences. We strive to help students to take action to help others in their community as well as around the world. However, we are a Title 1 school with limited funding for technology. My students strive to be successful and want to stay connected with the latest technology, i.e... the Kindle, would help them have another way to read and discuss books.
My students would be able to experience reading a variety of genres with a current trend in technology. The Kindle would spark interest in reading graphic novels, autobiographies, or even a classic comic book for students who lack motivation to read a book. The color display is helpful with meeting the needs of ESL students and special needs students. I will be able to use the Kindle to help students to buddy read with book talks, explore literature they would normally not even pick up, and meet new authors all because they are viewing it through technology with the Kindle. What a great way to help students at a Title 1 IB World School feel like they are current trend setters using a Kindle to read. Getting all my students to read is my goal, but helping students unlock any negative blocks to a "love for reading" is my joy.
Reading is the key to my students' future and my job as a teacher is to help them learn to unlock it.
Not all students have a love for reading. How better to motivate reluctant readers or struggling student than with a Kindle!
