We are a Preschool - 5th Grade Magnet School. Our community celebrates the diversity of our students and staff who are: Native American, African American, Asian American, Hispanic American, and European American. 71% of our students receive Free and Reduced Lunch, 38% receive English as a Second Language and 11% receive Special Education services including our SPEN Program that supports students with EBD.
As an International Baccalaureate Magnet School we believe in a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning through which students become inquirers, critical thinkers and communicators.
We firmly believe that all students can (and will) grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We are more than a school, we truly are a community of learners.
My Project
As authentic writers we make lists, ask questions, draw sketches, write stories, songs and notes to our friends. This project will allow students to take ownership in their writing by creating personalized journals.
When children are given the freedom to write without restrictions they grow to love writing.
We will hold an open workshop for students to come and create their own Wonder Journal. These supplies will allow them to create something that expresses their unique style and personality. Students will be encouraged to keep their journals with them for those moments that make them wonder and inspire them to write.
