Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What makes my students special? Their potential! I see future computer programmers, doctors, engineers, dentists, musicians, artists, teachers, aide workers, botanists, etc.
My students have the resiliency and integrity to be the leaders of the 21st century.
They are eager learners and will make the 21st century a century of great discoveries for obstacles facing mankind such as: cures for diseases, colonizing space, protecting our ozone, ending droughts and starvation, etc. Many of my students have environmental obstacles like low social economics, poor housing, insufficient positive role models, lack of basic needs such as a coat or a pencil. Yet, they overcome and rise. They enter my classroom daily with a smile and a need to learn. They want to make the world a better place for themselves and the future.
I was the same as my students at one time. I was a foster student in the same city and knew words like fear, hunger, poor, and pain. I knew I was a stereotype, but thanks to teachers and their introduction to literature I learned about other worlds around me, to have integrity and be resilient.
My Project
We have reached the mid -point of the academic year. I have students who are struggling with reading. I need new materials to get the students excited about reading again. When I test students in reading, I tell them that this is the way, I can gather knowledge and ideas for materials to help them become better readers.
These High-Interest Reading Intervention Folders will help me to work with my struggling readers to help them master their reading.
We would be studying developing skills such as determining the the main idea, inference skills and reading for details in fiction and nonfiction texts.
